Wynn and PokerStars Partner to Create Amendments in the Poker Industry

April 7, 2011

Wynn Resorts, one of the biggest casino entities from Las Vegas have agreed to a strategic partnership with the online poker giant, PokerStars.
In the US, PokerStars is the largest online poker site in existence, although Full Tilt Poker and a few other sites are strong competitors. Other online poker entities along with PokerStars have been pushing the American government to amend their position with regard to online gaming and PokerStars has finally got a go in terms of its collaboration with Wynn.

Steve Wynn, the CEO of Wynn Resorts appears to be very happy with the partnership and is strongly in favour of altering the existing gambling conditions by regulation online gaming within the U.S. He believes that the internet gambling sector has to be regulated after the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) was passed in 2006.

As of now, the UIGEA does not allow American banks to make transactions with online gambling sites present outside of America. Although PokerStars is based in the UK region Isle of Man, a settlement with such a dominant figure in the US casino sector will definitely enable the former to have a strong niche in the States. Mark Scheinberg, the co-founder of PokerStars stated that PokerStars follows all regulations in many of the European countries the site services.

Only recently, news reports confirmed that the gaming authority of the Nevada State had allowed Caesars entertainment and 888.com to come together. Wynn believes the same would lead to a partnership between Wynn and Pokerstars. If the deal comes through, the new entity would be known as PokerStarsWynn.com.

PokerStars Completes its 60 Billionth Hand

April 6, 2011

PokerStars recently announced that it had dealt its 60 billionth hand before the end of March and gave away a prize of $102k plus the jackpot of $150 to Pogo650, its lucky winner!

This historic hand was dealt at a humble $5/$10 Limit Texas Hold’em ring game table at which five poker players were seated. Each player associated with this milestone hand won a share of a prize pool of $100k, with four of them getting a prize of $21k and the fifth getting $11k based on the number of frequent player points (FPPs) they earned at the table.

The hand was dealt at 9:35 am EDT on Tuesday. A pair helped Pogo650 win the milestone hand. He had re-raised pre-flop and forced DrPepel to fold. The other four players called before checking on the flop of King, deuce, and three. While Pogo650 placed a bet, the other players called. A six appeared on the turn while a nine appeared on the river, at which time the jackpot was worth $150. Unable to believe his good luck, Pogo650 disappeared from the chat window for a long time before suddenly appearing and telling his poker buddies that he could now afford to change his “old banger of a car.”

Pogo650, who has been associated with not one, but two milestone hands, said that he is “possibly the biggest luckbox alive over the last week or so,” having won the milestones after two losing sessions. Eager poker players are now waiting for PokerStars’ next milestone hand, which is expected to be dealt soon.

Full Tilt Poker Strikes Deal with Fertitta Interactive

Two popular journals have reported that Full Tilt Poker has struck a strategic deal with Fertitta Interactive to pressurize the US federal government to legalize and regulate its online poker industry. The two journals in question are the Wall Street Journal and the Las Vegas Review Journal. Although Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta, the owners of Fertitta Interactive, also own Station Casinos, there does not appear to be a deal with Station Casinos.

Tom Brietling, who is the  co-owner of Fertitta Interactive, informed the Las Vegas Review Journal that Fertitta’s deal with Full Tilt Poker is not only confidential, but also dependant on the regulation and legalization of online poker in the US.

The Journal also reported that, since Fertitta Interactive is associated with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), one could predict an alliance between Full Tilt Poker and UFC in future.

The members of the Two Plus Two community have expressed their doubts of Station Casinos continuing its relationship with Full Tilt once the US regulates its online poker industry. They have also noted that Full Tilt Poker has still not announced the venue for its Onyx Cup Series, which are scheduled to be held in Las Vegas. Many had deduced that one of Station Casinos’ gaming establishments in Las Vegas will be the venue for the series, but it does not appear to have turned out that way.

This is the third alliance of its kind between an online poker site and a land-based gambling company this month. Recently, Wynn Resorts and PokerStars announced an alliance, before which Caesars Entertainment got together with 888 Holdings.
